Benjamin Curtis, guitarist and a founding member of School of Seven Bells, died from T-cell Lymphoblastic Lymphoma last night at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York, according to Oklahoma Rock. He was just 35.
Curtis, who performed with his brother Brandon and cousin Josh Garza in Secret Machines from 2000 until 2007, shared the news of his illness in February. “It developed pretty aggressively, and the chemotherapy to treat it will be pretty aggressive, but the good news is that it’s TREATABLE,” the band wrote on its Facebook page.
In August, a benefit concert took place featuring members of Interpol and the Strokes, along with Danny Masterson and Devendra Banhart.
A native of Oklahoma, Curtis also performed with Dallas band Tripping Daisy from 1997 until 1999. SPIN will have more information as it becomes available.
