Beck is caught in a legal battle with an Inglourious Basterd. The elder alt-rock statesmen is suing Inglourious Basterds star Til Schweiger (he played Sgt. Hugo Stiglitz in the 2009 war film) because of a dispute over a trashed Malibu mansion, TMZ reports.

As the gossip site points out, Schweiger — who is also one of Germany’s most successful filmmakers — owns a house in Malibu, California that he rented out to Beck for $11,000 per month from 2010 to February 2013. Both men agree that the property was a mess when the Morning Phase singer ended his stay. Schweiger blames Beck, saying that the 43-year-old musician had all kinds of unauthorized work done to the home while he was a tenant, resulting in “substantial physical damage” that necessitated $40,571 in repairs.

But Beck insists that the mansion was already in poor condition when he moved in, citing mold issues and problems with the plumbing and electricity that damaged several appliances, including the fridge, washing machine, and laptops. Beck is now suing Schweiger, claiming that the actor won’t return his $11,000 security deposit. In turn, Schweiger is countersuing the “Loser” songwriter for the alleged damage and unpaid back rent, demanding $56,704.24 in total.

Celebrities suing each other — probably not the “California tradition” Beck is looking to honor.
