Shocking Pinks will finally follow up 2007’s self-titled album. The next full-length from New Zealand tunesmith Nick Harte is set to arrive on February 18 via Stars & Letters. Guilt Mirrors will be a triple album spanning 34 tracks, “a bigger-than-life expression of the artistic process, exposing the white bones of former drug abuse, personal failure, transcendent epiphanies, and musical breakthroughs,” according to an official announcement.
Over the course of a few years, Harte claims that he amassed “over seven or eight albums’ worth of material,” totaling more than 300 demos and complete works. Portions of Guilt Mirrors were crafted after an earthquake ravaged his hometown of Christchurch and damaged his home studio. For a period of time Harte remained in his home, painted his windows black, and recorded for multiple days in a row without any sleep.
What he ended up with (per a press release) is “a sprawling, haunting, beautiful, and at times violent and distressing trilogy, that is much less a curated ‘album’ than it is a personal mixtape.” Harte has shared a single piece of Guilt Mirrors, a hazy sonic collage titled “Not Gambling.” Scroll down to stream the lo-fi treasure, which sounds like it’s held together by equal parts Scotch tape and studio wizardry.
