Quilt Set ‘Arctic Shark’ Loose Ahead of ‘Held in Splendor’ Album

quilt, arctic shark, held in splendor

Quilt have woven together their second album and set an early 2014 release date. Titled Held in Splendor, the follow-up to 2011’s Quilt will arrive on January 28 courtesy of Mexican Summer. Woods member Jarvis Taveniere produced the 13-track collection, which was recorded over the course of a month in the basement studio of Mexican Summer’s Brooklyn headquarters — a marked difference from the year-long stop-and-start process that birthed the trio’s first LP.

Members Anna Rochinski, John Andrews, and Shane Butler have shared the first song from the upcoming record, opening track “Arctic Shark.” Judging from the early glimpse, Held in Splendor benefits greatly from a more focused creative process. While crafting the new full-length, Quilt employed multiple microphones, added bass, and tapped friends to contribute saxophone, violin, cello, and steel guitar. “Arctic Shark” retains the shambling psychedelic charm of Quilt’s debut, but the production’s fuller, the volume louder, and the vocals higher in the mix.

Stream the mystic-tinged single above, and pre-order it in 7-inch and digital formats via Mexican Summer. Scroll down for the track list to Held in Splendor, followed by Quilt’s forthcoming tour dates, including a stop at Mexican Summer’s five-year anniversary festival.
