Pixies Add North American Dates, Are Touring Animals in ‘Andro Queen’ Video

Pixies, "Andro Queen" video, 'EP-1,' North American tour dates

The new-model Pixies are creatures of the road. The revived alternative-rock legends previously announced a world tour, and now they have added a block of North American tour dates to kick off 2014. They have also shared a new music video that drives home the image of the band as touring beasts.

The fresh tour dates run from January 15 in Toronto to March 1 in Austin, with stops across the continent in between. Fidlar will tag along for the first string of shows, followed by Cults and then Best Coast. Of course, with the BreedersKim Deal no longer part of the Pixies, the current lineup comprises singer-guitarist Black Francis, singer-bassist Kim Shattuck, guitarist-singer Joey Santiago, and drummer-singer David Lovering. The nu-Pixies can still be formidable, as they demonstrated on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon.

The latest Pixies video, for their recent EP-1‘s tender, restrained “Andro Queen,” is directed by Ondi Timoner. “For what’s missing I’ll sacrifice my flesh,” Francis sings, and in fact, the band in the video sacrifices its own faces to wear animal masks instead. That’s interspersed with sun-gleaming road footage. (The drumming tiger idea is enough to make you wonder hopefully if Pixies caught the 2007 indie-pop album Deliver Us From People by Minneapolis’ Walker Kong, which features just that on the cover.)

Recently declared Pixies lover Miley Cyrus must be so hyped.
