Justin Timberlake having his way with an actress on a kitchen counter and then getting dragged behind a pickup truck as it speeds inexorably toward, look out, a cliff? In the waning months of 2013, all that can somehow be boring. Part of the problem is the song this video accompanies: “TKO,” an aggressively banal seven-minute exercise in dated Timbaland production tropes and hilariously lame boxing references. The song was the first major clue the former N’ Sync singer’s The 20/20 Experience 2 of 2 would be unable to match its Essential predecessor. The video basically alternates between the kitchen scene and the Timberlake-chained-to-truck scene, both co-starring actress and model Riley Keough, Elvis Presley’s granddaughter. There are about 30 seconds of credits at the end, as if everybody had run out of ideas, which also happens to be the impression given when Timberlake croons, “This rematch sex is amazing.” Actually, that line is kind of amazing.
