Justin Vernon’s Volcano Choir Offer ‘Byegone’ for Smoldering TV Debut on ‘Fallon’

Volcano Choir made their television debut on Tuesday, dropping by Late Night With Jimmy Fallon to play “Byegone,” a nautical-themed breathtaker off the Wisconsin supergroup’s recently released second album. Frontman Justin Vernon (of Bon Iver fame) and his bandmates (the members of post-rock unit Collections of Colonies of Bees) slowly unspooled the Repave highlight, freeing the track’s rippling melody while draped in deep blue lighting. If it’s true that another Bon Iver LP isn’t coming in the near future, this masterful, meditative performance should help soften the sting. Set sail by hitting the play button above, and be sure to read SPIN’s recent feature on the band, Pardon the Eruption: 36 Hours in Milwaukee with Volcano Choir.

Vernon’s appearance on Fallon came just one day after another one of his collaborators, Mr. Kanye West, graced the NBC stage with R&B vet Charlie Wilson to perform Yeezus closer “Bound 2.”
