Watch Twin Shadow Drape Tori Amos’ ‘Silent All These Years’ in Darkness

twin shadow, tori amos, silent all these years

Twin Shadow pays tribute to Tori Amos in the third entry of his monthly Under the Cvrs series, covering the singer-songwriter’s Little Earthquakes jem “Silent All These Years.” And, just as he did with Bruce Springsteen’s “I’m on Fire,” George Lewis Jr. keeps the integrity of Amos’ original intact. The strings have been swept away and the vocals are far more somber, but the tender-hearted spirit of the 1992 ballad remains undisturbed.

As seen in the video above, Lewis delivers a focused performance, cloaked in darkness and supported by keyboard notes that swell and contract. The only time the camera breaks from the Confess auteur is to focus on a single, purple-lensed shot of a young woman waving her arms and smiling as Lewis sings, “Years go by / Will I choke on my tears till finally there is nothing left? / One more casualty.”

Watch Twin Shadow’s take on “Silent All These Years” above, and check out his versions of “I’m on Fire” and 10cc’s “Not in Love.”
