See Mark Lanegan and Martina Topley-Bird Bathe the xx’s ‘Crystalised’ in Moonlight

Mark Lanegan, the xx, Martina Topley-Bird

Mark Lanegan and trip-hop seductress Martina Topley-Bird have joined ranks with Warpaint for a haunted cover of the xx‘s stunning debut single, “Crystalised.” The gruff-voiced Lanegan — longtime friend to Queens of the Stone Age — stands in for xx member Oliver Sim, prowling his way through the track, while Topley-Bird — an established Tricky collaborator — plays the part of Romy Madley Croft, nestling her vocals into the new version’s looser, shuffling instrumentation. Check out the alternate rendition via the above video. Directed by Javier Badet, the clip intersperses headshots of Lanegan and Topley-Bird with a fluid animated short that, very fittingly, takes place under the moonlight.

No. 19 Music released the three-way collaboration on vinyl this week, supporting it with a slew of “Crystalised” reworkings. The six-track collection features remixes from Directors Cut (a.k.a. Frankie Knuckles and Eric Kupper), Agoria, Deniz Kurtel, and Tone of Arc. Fans can look out for a digital version of the mini-compilation on October 7, but until then, find the track list below.
