Dirty Projectors’ Olga Bell Plays Dress-Up in Nothankyou’s ‘Oyster’ Video

nothankyou, olga bell, dirty projectors

Dirty Projectors singer and keyboardist Olga Bell records on her own time under the moniker of Nothankyou, a collaborative project with U.K. dance-pop purveyor Tom Vek. The duo’s debut single dropped this past August, and now they’ve shared a video for “Oyster,” one of the double-A-side’s two tracks. Co-directed by Bell and Yuan Liu, the clip finds the DP member playing dress-up, donning a blond wig in one frame and ripping off Vek’s bespectacled look in another.

When she isn’t lip-synching the song’s down-pitched chorus (“The world is your oyster / Your oooysterrr”), Bell’s slurping down one of the titular molluscs. Speaking to Nowness, the Brooklyn-based vocalist said the video’s look was inspired by the work of late photographer Richard Avedon, “particularly In the American West, as well as lots of ’90s Calvin Klein ads and that iconic morphing sequence at the end of Michael Jackson’s ‘Black or White’ video.”
