Beck has released a new single, “Gimme,” which you can buy over at Amazon or in 45-rpm vinyl format via the Los Angeles-based artist’s website. The single is his third in the past handful of months, following the breezy “I Won’t Be Long” and psych-spangled “Defriended.” This one is over in less than two minutes and thirty seconds, but its use of electronic beats, pitch-shifted vocal harmonies, and the beachy tones of what might be xylophone or vibraphone bring the Song Reader writer into territory more commonly associated with, say, Sweden’s the Knife.
The song was briefly streaming via NPR, but now Pitchfork points to the official embed below. Beck is reportedly working on two albums, one acoustic and one a proper follow-up to 2008’s Danger Mouse-produced Modern Guilt. He’s currently in the midst of the “Station to Station” tour with Cat Power and Giorgio Moroder.
The vinyl release of “Gimme” comes as a double 12-inch single. One record includes an “extended length edit” on the B-side, and the other comprises “two halves of a 30-minute extended mix of the track,” per Beck’s site. The release comes with a 320kbsp download card.
