Beach Party ‘Can’t Surf,’ but Ty Segall Is Helping Them Shred

Beach Party Can't Surf Ty Segall Stream

What’s a Beach Party without a surfboard? Short answer: the dudes you see above. This Los Angeles four-piece — singer/guitarists Rob Banks and James Hurst with bassist Adam Arcos and drummer Nico Macciocca — came together less than a year ago, but they’ve already got a thing or two figured out. They’ve shared the stage with Best Coast, Black Lips, and the Allah-Las, and their sound makes ’em a perfect fit: old school surf rock crossed with bone-rattling garage groove.

They’ve just recorded a new two-song set that’ll be leaked out as a free flexi-disc stashed in the next issue of beloved local rock rag LA Record. Those songs were recorded by Ty Segall and we’ve got one of them below: “Can’t Surf,” of course. Therein we hear a dozen-plus excuses for our host’s hesitance to pick up a board, until he just blurts out the truth: “Oh no, the water’s too deep / Oh no, the shark’s underneath / My skin’s too pasty and white / Ohhhhhhhh … I can’t surf!
