Usher’s 5-year-old son has been hospitalized following after nearly drowning in the singer’s backyard swimming pool on Monday. TMZ reports that the boy, Usher Raymond V, was rushed to the Intensive Care Unit of an Atlanta hospital just after 2 p.m. on August 5.

The child was reportedly playing in the pool with his aunt when he got his arm caught in a drain while trying to retrieve a toy. Both the aunt and the housemaid dove in the water to try and rescue the boy, but they couldn’t get his arm loose. Luckily, two audio-visual contractors working at the house were able to save the boy after hearing the maid scream for help. The youngster was then immediately given CPR, described as “conscious, alert, and breathing,” and taken to the hospital. According to reports, Usher was not home at the time of the incident, but he arrived in time to accompany his son in the ambulance. Doctors are currently running a series of tests, but expect the child to make a full recovery. Both the singer and the boy’s mother, Usher’s ex-wife Tameka Foster, are at the hospital (via TMZ).

Usher’s family suffered an eerily similar tragedy last year. Kile Glover, Foster’s 11-year-old son from a previous relationship, died in July 2012 after being struck by a jet ski at Georgia’s Lake Lanier. Usher and Foster also have a second son, 4-year-old Naviyd Ely Raymond.
