Kings of Leon Go Hipstamatic for ‘Supersoaker’ Video, Chill Out on ‘Wait for Me’

Kings of Leon 'Wait for Me' 'Supersoaker' Video Fred Armisen

Kings of Leon have a whole host of fresh gifts for their loyal citizenry. With their sixth album Mechanical Bull due out September 24, the Nashville band has shared the Hipstamatic music video for their most recent single “Supersoaker,” debuted the audio for a mellower mid-tempo number called “Wait for Me,” and goofed off with Fred Armisen to preview their forthcoming American Express Unstaged concert.

First: in the above clip, the boys travel back to the ’50s for a malt-shop make-out session and more. The Followills appear in denim and leather, winkingly delivering lines about “sentimental girls” while the blown-out colors seem to pay a little tribute to the Rolling Stones’ Some Girls cover. Also, some girls in a sweet classic car slow to blow kisses at a young hitchhiker before we see the words “TEENAGE HEAD” painted on a wall.

Next: directly below, you can hear “Wait for Me,” where shuffling drums and languid guitars soundtrack Caleb’s ever-earnest vocals as they coo out some comfort to a lover. And finally, beneath that you’ll find Portlandia star Fred Armisen playing the Steve Buscemi to KoL’s Vampire Weekend. Before he directs their upcoming Amex Unstaged concert, the SNL vet convinces the band to compete against one another with these words of wisdom: “All great ideas are not great. Meaning ideas can be great but … are they?”

Armisen helps plug Kings of Leon’s August 9 concert/webcast at/from London.
