Hear J. Roddy Walston & The Business’ Gender-Bending ‘Marigold’

J. Roddy Walston & The Business

J. Roddy Walston & The Business hew close to time-honored tradition on their latest song. Says Walston: “‘Marigold’ is a dance song about the classic ‘Girl meets boy who is pretending to be a girl, who is poor and an artist and dabbling in drug usage because it’s all art and his trust fund says so,’ story.” Deadpan synopsis aside, the new track — which features on the Cleveland, Tennessee-formed, Baltimore-based foursome’s upcoming third album — revels in the ragged, Southern-fried sound that J. Roddy Walston & the Business have wielded since forming way back in 2002. To find restless piano hustle, fuzzed-out vocals, and a tale of self-destructive entitlement, stream “Marigold” below. Keep going to watch a trailer for the Essential Tremors LP, followed by tour dates. And to pre-order the album, which arrives on September 10, head over to iTunes.
