Another New Pixies Song on the Way? Frank Black Vine Clip Suggests So …

pixies, new song, frank black

The Pixies waited nine years to follow-up their 2004 one-off track “Bam Thwok,” dropping “Bagboy” back in June, but it looks like the indie-rock icons already have another new song on the way. Frontman Frank Black posted a Vine clip to The Actual Pixies Twitter yesterday (August 15) that appears to tease an as-yet-unreleased tune. The quick slice of footage features Black driving a vehicle, holding a camera in front of his face, and lip-synching along with the stereo. Judging from the brief video, the song is classic Pixies: Throat-shredding vocals from Black paired with frenzied, teeth-gnashing guitar. Check it out below (via the NME).

This brief preview follows an onslaught of recent activity from the Boston-reared legends. Before “Bagboy” arrived, longtime bassist Kim Deal officially quit the band and was subsequently replaced with Kim Shattuck, formerly of the L.A.’s the Muffs and, back in the day, the Pandoras. The Pixies also have a slew of upcoming tour dates, including stops at London’s iTunes Festival and Chicago’s Riot Fest. A definitive photo history of the group, aptly titled Pixies: A Visual History, is also on the way, thanks to a successful Kickstarter campaign.

Meanwhile, Kim Deal shared a video of her own yesterday, dropping an official clip for “Are You Mine?,” the latest entry in her ongoing solo single series. For an in-depth oral history of the Pixies, be sure to read SPIN’s extensive 2004 feature on the band.
