Mere days after announcing what was slated to be “the most dazzling event” of MTV’s VMAs week — sure to be “the talk of the town” — Cash Money Records have cancelled their invite-only awards show after-party in New York. The reason? Too many people wanted to go. At least that’s what organizers say in a new press release, which makes for a pretty gripping sequel following the flowery one that pimped the “luxury event” in the first place.
The label’s C.E.O. Bryan “Birdman” Williams and flagship star Lil Wayne were set to host, while roster-mates and affiliates like Drake, Busta Rhymes, DJ Khaled, Paris Hilton, and Tyga were promised to appear. The party was set for August 25 at Brooklyn’s Skylight One Hanson immediately following the VMAs. Alas, although it was, we reiterate, invite-only (with a handful of tickets on sale to benefit the American Diabetes Association), capacity issues killed the fun.
Says Cash Money:
“Due to the overwhelming response received and the ensuing capacity issues and, moreover, out of concern for the safety of our fans and guests planning on attending, CASH MONEY RECORDS and YOUNG MONEY ENTERTAINMENT believed it would be more prudent to regretfully cancel the event. Shortly after the party was announced, the incredible reaction from ticket-buyers, guests, and artists brought the final count of attendees above and beyond capacity allowed. Keeping safety for all in highest regard, the party has been officially cancelled.”
So, what, Weezy couldn’t make it? At least Drake will be at the VMAs.
