Bret Easton Ellis Narrates a Murder in Placebo’s ‘Too Many Friends’ Video

bret easton ellis, placebo, too many friends

Writer Bret Easton Ellis has taken a break from his increasingly cushy relationship with Kanye West to narrate Placebo’s latest music video. Directed by Saman Kesh, the nearly seven-minute clip showcases “Too Many Friends,” the lead single from Placebo’s upcoming seventh album, Loud Like Love, out September 17. This being an Ellis-approved project and all, the just-released short merges death, drugs, depravity, and slight nudity, and it all takes place in the hills above Los Angeles on Mulholland Drive (of course). Subtitled “Unfortunate Details,” the video opens with the American Psycho author setting up a scenario: There’s been an accidental murder and Ellis wants to present you, the viewer, with a set of facts to determine who was in the wrong. Oh, yeah, and there’s a new Placebo song playing in the middle. Watch it all above.
