Born Ruffians Conquer New York City in Champagne-Drenched ‘Needle’ Video

Born Ruffians

Back in April, SPIN premiered Born Ruffians’ outstanding third album, Birthmarks. “While just as vigorous as their earliest work,” we noted, “[Birthmarks] is more polished and streamlined and considered than anything they’ve shared to date.” In keeping with that theme, the Luke Lalonde-fronted outfit have taken to the big city for their latest music video. Set to the folk-inflected “Needle,” the above clip opens with Lalonde wandering through New York City alone, while his vocal track repeats a self-centered mantra made for urbane twentysomethings: “I belong with no one / You belong with me.” Despite that lonesome refrain, the video quickly gives way to shots of the singer-guitarist partying with friends, guzzling champagne on rooftops, and playing a gig onstage with his bandmates — in other words, living.
