Stone Temple Pilots are hitting the road this fall with new lead singer Chester Bennington in tow. The alt-rock mainstays will kick off a 15-date U.S. tour on September 4, performing at the Sands Bethlehem Events Center in Pennsylvania. Bennington, Eric Kretz, and brothers Robert and Dean DeLeo will then make stops in New Jersey, Massachusetts, New York, Oklahoma, Florida, South Carolina, Texas, Arizona, and Nevada before wrapping up with a November 1 gig at the Hard Rock Live in Mississippi.
Fellow bro-rockers Filter will support STP on many of the upcoming shows, and Mötley Crüe are expected to share a September 13 bill with the “Sex Type Thing” stars. Pre-sale packages, which include collectible merchandise and meet-and-greets with the band, go on sale July 16. Additional information on VIP offers can be found through VIP Nation. General admission tickets will go on sale Friday, July 19 via STP’s official website.
The STP/Linkin Park hybrid is also planning to drop a new EP this fall through their own label, with distribution through Alternative Distribution Alliance. “We’ve been writing new material and visiting songs from our early albums,” Robert DeLeo said in a statement. “It all feels new again and we’re excited to get out and play a solid set of songs both old and new.”
When the forthcoming EP does arrive, it will be STP’s first batch of original material since ex-frontman Scott Weiland was fired back in February and subsequently replaced with Bennington. Earlier this year, Weiland went on record as saying his feelings were hurt by the public dismissal. The former bandmates are now caught in a major legal battle after the brothers DeLeo and Kretz filed suit against Weiland for breach of contract in May, claiming that the 45-year-old singer intentionally sabotaged the group’s success. Weiland responded in kind with a countersuit, demanding $7 million while accusing his estranged comrades of conspiring against him.
