J Mascis appeared on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon last night (July 29), sitting in with house band the Roots throughout the entire episode. Seven minutes into the broadcast, Fallon introduced the fifth Greatest Guitarist of All Time, plugged Dino’s most recent album (last year’s Essential I Bet on Sky), and graciously thanked him for showing up, to which Mascis replied, “All right, thanks a lot.” The full 41-minute episode is streaming above, so skip through to see J and the Roots cover Neil Young’s immortal “Cortez the Killer” (at 6:20), the Cure’s “Just Like Heaven” (17:05), Daft Punk’s “Get Lucky” (at 21:25), and Black Sabbath’s “War Pigs” (at 36:10). Stick around through the end to catch the Virgins perform “Wheel of Fortune,” a jangler off their second album, this year’s Strike Gently
