Hieroglyphics Star in Blaxploitation Flick for ’70s-Loving ‘It’s Partly Me’ Video

hieroglyphics, it's partly me, the kitchen

Hieroglyphics will make their long-awaited return on July 16 when the hip-hop collective issues The Kitchen, the follow-up to 2003’s Full Circle. In advance of the new album’s arrival, the Oakland supergroup — founded in the early ’90s by Deltron 3030 mastermind Del the Funky Homosapien — have dropped a retro-themed video for LP track “It’s Partly Me” (via Rolling Stone). “The video is like a throwback concept to blaxploitation movies from the 1970s,” said group member Pep Love. “We’ve got costumes and different looks.” Among the styles explored in the ’70s-flavored clip: Garish button-down shirts, furry vests, and a few afro-mustache combinations that would make Richard Roundtree proud.
