Last week, the Flaming Lips turned in a strangely straightforward music video for “Turning Violent,” a slow-burning stunner off the Oklahoma freaks’ Essential new album, The Terror. True, the clip featured a glitter-specked pseudo-orgy and a raging laser light show, but that’s standard fare for the Wayne Coyne-led weirdos. Now, as Stereogum points out, the Lips recorded another video during that same shoot, one that features their blaring, slowed-down cover of Devo‘s taut New Wave tune “Gates of Steel,” from 1980’s Freedom of Choice LP.
This Terror-fied tribute doesn’t appear on any official Flaming Lips release — Coyne and co. have just shared the short to promote their upcoming tour dates. Watch the glittery, multi-colored video above and scroll down for the Lips’ live schedule.
