Dave Grohl’s star-studded Sound City documentary has been officially certified as a Gold Longform Video by the RIAA. According to an official announcement, the distinction is awarded for physical sales exceeding 50,000 copies. In the U.S. alone, Mr. Grohl‘s feature-length directorial debut (a project he once described as “my life’s most important work”) has sold more than 100,000 copies, with over 50,000 in DVD sales and over 50,000 in digital sales. As SPIN’s Chris Martins reported in his February 2013 cover story, the film examines the legacy of California’s now-defunct Sound City Studios and its legendary, custom-built Neve 8028 recording console that was involved in the making of classic albums by Neil Young, Fleetwood Mac, Rage Against the Machine, and, yes, Nirvana
