Half a Molly: Dan Deacon Chops Up Miley Cyrus’ ‘We Can’t Stop’

Miley Cyrus’ “We Can’t Stop” has turned out to be divisive. Blame it on the hilarious-slash-wonderful Jay-Z mention, the eyeball-trolling video, and the equally troll-y molly-not-molly talking points, because the Mike Will-produced track’s pop-scion embrace of rap and R&B was clearly meant to be blasting from car windows all summer. And leave it to Dan Deacon to, well, divide Cyrus’ hit, chucking out half of the sonics on his “We Can’t Stop 50% Reduction (Straight Chop Remix).” The hyperactive track is part of a 37-song “We Can’t Stop” compilation on Bandcamp. It’s hard to imagine wanting to listen to this instead of the original, but as with the America electronic whiz’s previous glosses on “Gangnam Style” and “Call Me Maybe,” it’s an amusing look at a familiar song through Deacon’s distinctively warped lens. “Nothing added,” he tweeted. “Only removed.” Twe???r???k???, Dan, twe???r???k???.
