Autre Ne Veut Stays Seductively Electro-R&B on Slinky ‘Adult Swim’ Single ‘On & On’

Autre Ne Veut

Autre Ne Veut’s entry in this year’s stacked Adult Swim Singles series has arrived. Titled “On & On,” the song fittingly sees the Brooklyn indie R&B producer-singer Arthur Ashin keepin’ on keepin’ on with the gauzy seductiveness of this year’s Anxiety and its standout “Play by Play.” New-age influences recur in the sampled female vocals pealing like pan flutes between wriggling synths and clattering steel-drum tones. Ashin’s flighty falsetto is at its best, though, on the guitar-adorned bridge, as he repeats, “Push me higher, baby.” It’s unlikely to displace the Erykah Badu song of the same title in anyone’s avant-R&B canon, but it should be more than enough to keep faith in Autre Ne Veut’s potential going on (& on).

Listen over at Entertainment Weekly, and download the song on Monday from Adult Swim. (Also see previous 2013 Adult Swim singles by Friendzone with Mykki Blanco, Dan Deacon, METZ, Run the Jewels, and Kitty).
