Hear Groove Armada Vet Andy Cato’s ‘The Coastal Path (the Amorphous Androgynous Remix)’

Andy Cato

On Andy Cato’s solo album Times & Places, released in May via Apollo/R&S, “The Coastal Path” is a serene, percussion-less track built around a soft female vocal and plush orchestration. Well, the Groove Armada half has now given “The Coastal Path” over to the Amorphous Androgynous — an alias for fellow U.K. electronic-music trailblazers the Future Sound of London — and their reworking is a drastically different, jazzy psych workout. Frantic bass, bustling woodwinds, hammering drums, and effects-warped guitar leads bring this one closer to, say, the hazy rock of Tame Impala, or Thundercat’s fusion-informed “Oh Sheit It’s X.” This remix and a Biosphere remix of fellow Times & Places cut “Sunrise Sant Agnes” will be out digitally on July 23, again via Apollo/R&S.
