Thundercat’s ‘Lotus & the Jondy’ Bangs With Hellacious Drum Solo

If you’ve yet to download Apocalypse — the new album by L.A. bass ninja Thundercat, available now at digital retailers — “Lotus & the Jondy” will convince you. The song first presents itself as a live jazz workout; Thundercat plucks fat bass lines while keys and percussion make a controlled splatter around him. Then, halfway into the song, what was once a steady trot morphs into an all-out sprint courtesy of a hellacious drum solo.

Vinyl and regular old plastic editions of the album — which follows 2011’s The Golden Age of Apocalypse — will be available June 24.
