Triple-Play: The National Take New York

On May 21, the National celebrated the release of their latest, Trouble Will Find Me, with a three-stop, three-venue tour through New York, the city where they became the band they are today. The jaunt began with a lunchtime set in their longtime South Brooklyn neighborhood of Ditmas Park, touched down in Williamsburg at Public Assembly, the former art space known as Galapagos, just before dinner, and finished up with a fiery, nostalgia-soaked performance at Mercury Lounge on Manhattan’s Lower East Side. As chronicled in our new profile of the band, it was an experience both grueling and enlightening — a worthy microcosm for the band’s fourteen-year trajectory.
