Joke-Rockers Tenacious D to Showcase Musical Comedy at Festival Supreme

Tenacious D Jack Black Announce Music Comedy Festival Supreme

No one brings the rock and jokes like The D brings the rock and jokes. So who better than the dynamic duo of Jack Black and Kyle Gass to deliver a real rock’n’roll festival experience set to the slapstick sounds of comedy?

In a video set to look like a Woodstock interview, Tenacious D announced it will host the inaugural music-and-comedy event Festival Supreme on October 19 on the Santa Monica Pier. Aside from that troublesome twosome, the day will feature sets from Zach Galifianakis, Adam Sandler, Sarah Silverman, the Mr. Show Experience, Fred Armisen, Reggie Watts, Eric Idle, Hannibal Buress, Will Forte, Demetri Martin, Tim and Eric, and Triumph the Insult Comic Dog, over three or four stages.

Speaking to Rolling Stone, Black and Gass revealed some hints about what to expect, aside from the pier’s amusement park rides and food: Sandler will bring some new jams, Galifianakis likely won’t be playing piano but will do something musical, and Bob Odenkirk and David Cross of Mr. Show, said Black, “wanted to be called The Mr. Show Experience, because they were going to sort of reinvent themselves in some way.”

Black continued to reveal, following last year’s Rize of the Fenix, fans should expect new music from Tenacious D this time next year.

As for the festival, the School of Rock actor explained, “There’s no real objective here other than to put on the greatest show this town has ever seen. I feel like there’s an empty hole there, too. Like why hasn’t there ever been a really kick-ass comedy festival in Los Angeles? I can’t think of one. It’s like a no-brainer. This is where they all are. You don’t even have to fly anybody out.”
