Drumgasm! Soundgarden, Wild Flag, and Death Grips Drummers Plot Supergroup Album

Janet Weiss, Zach Hill, and Matt Cameron all featured prominently on SPIN’s 100 Greatest Drummers of Alternative Music list. Needless to say, our minds were than a little blown when we spotted this post on Wild Flag’s Facebook page: “DRUMGASM is what happens when Matt Cameron, Janet Weiss, & Zach Hill set up together in a room & commence to EXPLODE. Record news tomorrow!” Yes, it appears that three of the finest drummers to ever pick up the sticks have joined forces to form an all-drummer supergroup.

Portland label Jackpot Records currently has a webpage devoted to the project (via Pitchfork). According to the site, the thunderous trio have recorded an album that is indeed called Drumgasm. “Three people, three drum kits, some microphones and a reel of tape — that’s it: pure spontaneity,” reads the listing. “There’s nothing out there that’s very comparable to this — maybe the Voodoo drum ritual music of the Drummers of the Societe Absolument Guinin, is all I can think of, though admittedly even that is a pretty far cry.”

A vinyl copy of the record is currently available for pre-order and priced at $14.99. The hand-numbered LP comes with an MP3 download.

Between them, Weiss, Hill, and Cameron have drummed for Sleater-Kinney and Wild Flag; Death Grips, Hella, and Boredoms; and Pearl Jam and Soundgarden. Stay tuned for more details on this epic (and kind of terrifying) union as they surface.
