Watch Rhye Seduce New York City in Candlelit Silhouette

rhye, npr, le poisson rouge

Rhye, the sultry electronic project of Quadron’s Robin Hannibal and vocalist Mike Milosh, won us over with March’s “languid, sublimely beguiling” debut album Woman. But the pair’s delicate jams are best showcased live, wherein Milosh, one of pop’s most convincing gender-benders, illuminates an otherwise blackened room with hazy, Sade-like grooves. It’s less a sight than a sound to behold, but now you can do both. On April 17, Rhye treated Manhattan’s Le Poisson Rouge to an intimate 20-something-minute performances, now available to experience online, courtesy of NPR.

Enhanced with live drums, a string section, horns, keys, and bass, the duo played some of Woman‘s most memorable beat-laced numbers, including “Open” and “Verse.” The room glowed only with the light of a few candles, and Milosh’s soft and soulful voice.
