Sigur Ros Drawn Into a Very Icelandic ‘Simpsons’ Season Finale

The Simpsons Sigur Ros Season 24 Finale

The Simpsons will go to Iceland for the finale of Season 24, due to air Sunday, May 19, and post-rock giants Sigur Rós will be there to greet them. Or, as Reykjavík newspaper Morgunblaðið words it, via Google Translate, “Original music Sigur Rós will have much weight on the show, but … in addition to members of the team have been drawn into the show and will probably strut around the screen yellow color.”

Yes, Jónsi and his gang of ambient upstarts will be both appearing in and contributing music to the episode, which will revolve around the long-running character of Carl Carlson (a.k.a. Lenny’s pal), who was born and raised in Iceland. As the A.V. Club points out, Season 22 episode “The Bob Next Door” features a brief detour into the European country when Homer is blamed for the financial crisis therein.

The Simpsons briefly crossed over into the world of music news in March when Fox issued the famous family’s very own version of “The Harlem Shake.” Other recent musical guests to the show include Tom Waits and the Decemberists.
