Broken Social Scene Share First New Song Since Split, ‘Day of the Kid’

Broken Social Scene Years 'Day of the Kid' Arts Crafts X

Beloved Canadian label Arts & Crafts is celebrating its 10-year anniversary with a string of exciting releases and events, the next of which arrives May 28. Arts & Crafts: X is a 10-song compilation featuring all-new collaborations between various artists in their close-knit musical family, with appearances from the freshly hologrammed Feist, Daft Punk collaborator Chilly Gonzales, Ra Ra Riot, Stars, and more. Oh, and Broken Social Scene (with Years) doing a song called “Day of the Kid.”

Stereogum has the exclusive stream of that expansive gem, which builds from a sleepy baroque-folk drift into a swelling near-orchestral gush. Credit that post-rock arc to Years, a.k.a. Ohad Benchetrit, who plays a handful of instruments for the Do Make Say Think posse and is also often counted among the membership of BSS anyhow. The warm new song bodes well for the forthcoming one-off performance from Broken Social, who are reuniting for the A&C’s June 8 Field Trip festival.
