Queens of the Stone Age’s protracted and much-appreciated campaign to return a little mystery to the album-release cycle is nearing its end, and ferociously so. On Saturday night at Lollapalooza Brasil, the Palm Desert, California, hard-rock heavies debuted a new song called “My God Is the Sun.” As Antiquiet reports, the concert in Brazil was also QOTSA’s first with new drummer Jon Theodore, who played with the Mars Volta for several years and has collaborated with Rage Against the Machine’s Zack de la Rocha under the name One Day as a Lion. As the pro-shot footage above shows, the song was an intricately pummeling preview for both Theodore, who blasted away on an all-white drum set, and QOTSA’s forthcoming album, now officially titled …Like Clockwork and due in June via storied indie Matador Records. Afterward, frontman Josh Homme fittingly declared it time to get drunk.
Of course, Dave Grohl plays drums on …Like Clockwork — read our Grohl cover story here — and all of the evidence suggests the album will also feature contributions from Elton John, Trent Reznor, Jake Shears, Mark Lanegan, and Nick Oliveri.
