M83 are prone to grand gestures, so it fits that Anthony Gonzalez followed up 2011’s double-album opus Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming with the score to Tom Cruise’s sci-fi epic Oblivion (in theaters April 19). The grandiosity bled into his performance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! last night (April 17), as Gonzalez’s wide-screen ambitions tested the limits of late-night television. He brought along a lush string section to back the hurricane of drums, violins, and Norwegian singer-songwriter Susanne Sundfør’s roaring vocals. The set marked Sundfør’s U.S. television debut — a star turn, if there ever was one.
