Jay-Z, Flying Lotus Throw Muscle Behind Little-Known Indie Film

An Oversimplification of Her Beauty, the movie by Dallas filmmaker Terence Nance, has some impressive names behind it. Co-produced by Jay-Z, Wyatt Cenac, and Dream Hampton, the film also features original music from Flying Lotus, who has dabbled in short films and other multimedia projects before. Nance is most well-known for his extensive work with the Pharoahe Monch, and he wrote, directed, edited, and produced the film, which was an official selection at this past year’s Sundance Film Festival. It opens in New York tonight at Cinema Village, and will be shown at Downtown Independent in Los Angeles on May 17.

The movie represents a continuation of Jay-Z’s dabbling in film. He helmed the soundtrack for the upcoming The Great Gatsby, which features contributions from Beyonce and Andre 3000, Lana Del Rey, the ss and Sia, though the best track is the searing “100$ Bill” from Hov himself.
