Stream EmptyMansions’ Desert-Weary Cover of Neil Young’s ‘Down By the River’

emptymansions

EmptyMansions, the not-totally-ridiculous side-project of Interpol drummer Sam Fogarino, teased a debut album a few months back with “Lyra,” a track SPIN’s Chris Martins described as “a testosterone-fueled explosion of desert grind, arty slack, and psych breadth.” Now Fogarino has shared EmptyMansions’ cover of Neil Young’s “Down By the River” to celebrate the release of snakes/vultures/sulfate, out today (April 2) via Riot House Records.

Fogarino — backed by Secret Machines bassist Brandon Curtis (who also plays keys, sings backup, and acts as producer) and guitarist Duane Denison (Jesus Lizard, Tomahawk, Th’ Legendary Shack Shakers) — opts for a languid take that’s only half the length of Young’s Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere classic, but feels just as travel-weary.

Below find the stream, tour dates, and the track list for snakes/vultures/sulfate, which is available now on iTunes.
