See Trinidad James Get Devilish in Trinidad for ‘Females Welcomed’ Video

Trinidad James 'Females Welcomed' Video Don't Be S.A.F.E.

Everyone’s traveling for their videos these days. A$AP Rocky and Skrillex hit the Dominican Republic for “Wild for the Night.” Thunderbird Gerard took a trip to Morocco for “Live/Victory Part II.” And now we’ve got Trinidad James, returning to his native namesake for the colorful accompanying clip to “Females Welcomed” from his Don’t Be S.A.F.E. mixtape (one of SPIN’s Best Hip-Hop Albums of 2012).

“Fuck love, it’s overrated,” are the words that kick off James’ first verse on the song, and no wonder — he’s been abandoned by his “side chick,” his “main chick” and his “main girl.” What’s a fella to do except head down the Caribbean to regroup? In the first part of the Jonathan Mannion-directed video, T-Dad spits like a llama, rides atop a massive truck and does pull-ups all over the damned place. But then the night falls and the drop, um, drops as EDM-addled glitchery soundtracks a night of oft-feathered and clearly devilish debauchery. The visuals are bewitching indeed, but not exactly a tourist draw unless you’re into that whole serpent-and-rainbow scene.
