Hear The-Dream Pretend He’s a Rapper on ‘TRON’

The-Dream 'TRON' Rapping Song IV Play

Last week, The-Dream teamed up with Fabolous for pretty soft-focus R. Kelly-style jam called “Slow it Down.” For that track, he implored DJs to trade in the EDM for some classic love-making music, but the results were a little light on the ear. Perhaps that’s why the man born Terius Nash is suddenly playing a menacing rapper in the new song, “TRON.”

Over cheap skittering drums and floating synth lines, he calls out “talentless morons” before playing the ultimate trump card: “The fuck I look like hatin’ on a R&B nigga? / I am R&B, nigga.” Sure, it reads tough, but thanks to the pitched-down rhymes, it sounds like a dude with a cold rapping from within a diving bell. This one apparently hails from The-Dream’s May 7 album IV Play (previously reported to be Fourplay), but it isn’t exactly the “authentic love-making experience” we’d been promised. For that, take a spin through Mick Boogie’s 50-minute Parental Advisory mix, which weaves a ton of the producer-singer’s hits into a continuous stream of cocksure smoothness.
