Little known fact: in our first decade on newsstands, SPIN published multiple “Swimsuit Issues,” tongue-in-cheek summer editions that featured dozens of pop luminaries (Johnny Cash, Bob Dylan, Belinda Carlisle, Boy George, LL Cool J, Ice T, Susanna Hoffs, Motörhead, and so many more) at their most leisurely.
To pay homage, we invited a spate of young bands to break from the hustle and bustle of SXSW to join us at Austin’s historic Deep Eddy Pool. Check out the sun-dappled results (we’ve collected a few of the classic swimsuit covers on the last slide, too):
