“That’s the first part of the song,” Earl Sweatshirt said partway into performing three previously unreleased songs Wednesday night during a Flying Lotus show at the Low End Theory in Los Angeles, as HipHopDX reports. “I’m gonna get started on the second part of the song in a second.” It was an unceremonious way to preview material from upcoming album Doris, from which the Odd Future rapper has already shared the introspective “Chum.”
According to the Masked Gorilla, these three songs will appear on the record, and they are Pharrell-produced “Burgundy,” self-produced “Hive” (featuring Casey Veggies and Vince Staples), and “Guild” (featuring Mac Miller). Miller took the mic for his free-associative verse on “Guild,” a track that Sweatshirt called one of his favorites on the album. Naturally, the live video leaves a fair amount to the imagination, which should only whet listeners’ appetites for the studio versions.
