Watch Django Django’s Death-Defying ‘WOR’ Video

django django, WOR, well of death

British pop-hybridists Django Django usually inject their music videos with surreal sci-fi imagery; see the VR-dreamscape of “Hail Bop,” the squiggle-vision graphics in “Life’s a Beach,” and the black-and-white acid flashback captured for “Hand of Man.”

But for their newest clip — a companion to “WOR,” another psych-flavored cut off the band’s 2012 self-titled debut album — the Best New Artist honorees focus on the real world. The Mercury Prize-nominated quartet asked the folks at Noisey to travel to India and film the high-speed sideshow at the appropriately named Well of Death in Allahabad. Director Jim Demuth and crew set up a shoot in the middle of a giant silo-shaped cylinder while cars and motorcycles circled the walls. Like, vertically.

“I’m not afraid at all,” one of the drivers says. “Whether I die here or at home. Now I think death is inevitable.”

Okay, so the five-minute video still may be pretty surreal, but at least nobody’s melting into furniture. Watch “WOR” up top.

Though Django Django don’t show up in the Well of Death footage, fans can spot the art-pop outfit on March 26, when they make their U.S. late-night television debut on The Tonight Show With Jay Leno, and on tour this spring.
