Last year, SPIN presented an in-depth retrospective tracing hip-hop’s long love affair with video games, from the 8-bit Atari days to the Playstation 2’s Lil B-assisted role-playing fantasies. Now Big Boi and B.o.B have presented a video for their own arcade-indebted anthem, “Double or Nothing,” the official theme song for the soon-to-be-released shoot ’em up adventure Army of Two: The Devil’s Cartel.
The Vicious Lies and Strange Clouds MCs both play characters in the upcoming game and reprise their roles in the double-billed track’s companion clip, which can be seen up top. The video opens with Boi and B.o.B rolling up to a club just as the former OutKast receives a text saying their lady friends have been kidnapped by “the drug cartel.” The Southern gents react accordingly: They storm the cartel’s headquarters, use bullets and blades to murder everyone in sight, rescue the damsels, and swing back to the bar before last call. The four-minute revenge fantasy mixes live-action footage with gameplay from Army of Two: The Devil’s Cartel, so no actual drug dealers were harmed during filming.
Fans who pre-order the game, which comes out on Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 on March 26, will be able to play as either rapper and will also unlock custom masks designed by the pair.
