Last year’s full-length entry from Thee Oh Sees, Putrifiers II, was “the best album the Elephant 6 Recording Collective never managed to make” and one of SPIN’s 50 Best Albums of 2012 to boot — the San Francisco band also helped save an adorable little dachshund’s life in December — so it’d be conservative to say that we have high hopes for the band’s forthcoming April 16 LP with the terrifying/amazing cover art, Floating Coffins. The garage slayers previewed new song “Minotaur” at their brilliantly brutal hometown show last month (check out our live photos from the SF gig) and now we’ve got the official studio version below. Opening with mournful but warm strings, the track soon graduates to an off-kilter upbeat swoon as John Dwyer sings of fading dreams backed by the gushing ahhs of Brigid Dawson. Echoes of Sonic Youth and Nirvana bounce around the gritty yet satisfying song.
