The wet snow descending upon the Northeast today as part of what could be a once-in-a-century blizzard is already affecting plans for Sunday’s Grammy Awards in Los Angeles. And New York’s Saturday Night Live will be right in the thick of it.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, many in the entertainment industry have canceled plans to travel to the Grammys and others events this weekend due to the storm. The New York Times reports that airlines suspended “thousands of flights” from New York and Boston last night and this morning. A New York state emergency services official told reporters the latest forecasts indicate from 12 to 20 inches of snow in the New York City region, with wind gusts of more than 60 mph.
Saturday Night Live is set to film this weekend, when Justin Bieber will be on double duty as host and musical guest. The show tweeted yesterday that it will hand out tickets tonight at 11 p.m. due to the storm. That spares Beliebers from camping out to try for tickets at the usual distribution time of 7 a.m. the day of the taping.
The Weather Channel is calling the storm Nemo. For the record, SPIN does not endorse this practice. Not even jokingly. Although Flying Lotus man Steven Ellison did say last year’s Until the Quiet Comes was the soundtrack to imagining “Little Nemo on a flying bed floating over the city,” so now you have something to listen to while the snowflakes fall. (Come to think of it, you have a lot of things to listen to.)
