Adele Is Well Aware She’s Only an Emmy and Tony From EGOT

Adele, Barbra Streisand, Oscars

As Barbra Streisand might’ve sung, people who want an EGOT… might be the only people in the world who still take awards shows seriously. Nonetheless, Adele has suggested she will try to follow in the almighty Babs’ footsteps, adding a Tony and Emmy to her trophy haul to earn the full grand slam.

“Maybe I’ll do an HBO special like Beyoncé did,” the “Skyfall” singer said backstage from the Academy Awards’ venue on Sunday, as Billboard reports. “And a Tony, I’m not so sure. Maybe someday I’ll do a musical.”

In more serious news, the New Yorker‘s John Colapinto has a lengthy, subscriber-only profile of Steven Zeitels, the doctor who operated on Adele’s throat as well as those of Julie Andrews, Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler, the Who’s Roger Daltrey, Keith Urban, Cher, Lionel Richie, James Taylor, and hundreds of others. Adele thanked Zeitel from the stage from last year’s Grammys.

Zeitel talked about the pressure of potentially ending a singer’s career (“you don’t schedule two or three things on the day you do an Adele”), the nervousness of watching Adele’s first post-surgery performance at the Grammys (“It was like being her dad”), and the perks of being Adele’s doctor (she sings in your office). “She would try a song and say, ‘Okay, that worked. Let’s try this one,'” Zeitels is quoted as saying. “I got a free a-capella concert in my office. It was insane.” As insane as EGOT?
