Toro y Moi and Dog Bite Swap Post-Dilla Beats and Gooey Guitars on Split 7-Inch

Toro y Moi and Dog Bite

Fans of gooey psychedelic electro-pop now have another reason to mark their calendars for Toro y Moi’s upcoming tour with Dog Bite. Toro y Moi, masterminded by shape-shifting South Carolina songwriter-producer Chaz Bundick, and Dog Bite, the project of former Washed Out live keyboardist Phil Jones, have pressed a tour-only split single that speaks to each artist’s strengths. Bundick’s talents range from dance to wide-screen art-groove, but his “Lying (Pt. 1-4)” suite recalls the swooning post-Dilla beatmaking of his chillwave-summer debut, Causers of This. Dog Bite’s “Would Be,” like “Pretty Pills” from Jones’ upcoming February LP, casts gimlet-eyed vocals in an immersive atmosphere that leans more on patiently unspooling guitar riffs. In either case, those interested in each artist’s style should find plenty more where that came from on the new single.
