Looks like Solange Knowles isn’t just fond of deep Brandy cuts. While performing in London last night (January 17), the True singer covered “Make It Hot,” the Missy Elliott- and Mocha-featuring first single from ’90s R&B starlet Nicole Wray. To help with the Timbaland-produced track, Solange called up the xx’s Oliver Sim. “Me and Oliver have bonded over our love for ’90s and 2000 R&B,” Solange says after introducing the Coexist vocalist. Sim isn’t really a stand-in for Missy E, but his monotone suspicions play well enough off Solange’s plush boasts. Watch the crowd-shot footage up above (via the xx’s Facebook page) and head below to compare with Wray’s 1998 original.
