Hear Painted Palms’ Ariel Pink-Indebted, Kevin Barnes-Approved ‘Carousel’

Painted Palms' 'Carousel'

Painted Palms had an early benefactor in Of Montreal’s Kevin Barnes, who heard Reese Donohue and Christopher Prudhomme’s debut Canopy EP and invited the duo to open for his band in 2011. That co-sign was more a measure of good taste than musical affinity. “Carousel,” the A-side of band’s upcoming 7-inch, due March 5 on Polyvinyl, is closer to, say, the playfully skewed pop of Ariel Pink than Of Montreal’s overflowing psychedelia. Painted Palms’ as-yet-untitled debut is expected later this year.
